Our Origin
Born from Community. Built by Community.
In 2010, 12 community leaders gathered in Dar es Salaam with a shared frustration: Tanzania’s potential was being stifled by lack of access — to capital, to education, to clean water, to opportunity.
They didn’t wait for an outside solution. They became one. Starting with $5,000 in pooled savings and an unwavering belief in their communities, they launched what would become the Tanzania Empowerment Association.
Today, TEA operates across all major Tanzanian regions, with 6 flagship programs, 240+ active community chapters, and a growing global network of donors and advocates who share our vision: a Tanzania where every person can reach their full potential.
